Wir liessen die schoene Nelson/Richmond Gegend hinter und und fuhren weiter zum Tahunanui Recreation Reserve, entlang der rauhen West Coast und hatten unsere naechsten 2 Naechte beim DOC (Department of Conservation) Campsite Lake Mahinapua
We left the beautiful Nelson/Richmond area and drove on to the Tahinanui Recreation Reserve along the rough West Coast and had 2 nights at the DOC camp at Lake Mahinapua

Our next 2 nights were at the Department of Conservation (DOC) Campsite at Lake Mahinapua. This is a public place, only $15/night shared with funny Wekas who where around during the day and night. They even rummaged through our food and partial open boxes and buckets... its an adventure to stay the night in the bush amongst wildlife and nature.
Here you pay your $15/Night cash in the box. I doubt anyone would attempt to steal anything here.
this place is apparently the "bathing beach" (?) its about half a meter shallow and FULL of brown dark algae.. Rather Yuck! Does this invite for swimming and bathing? Here?

kalte Duschen, kommt mir aber ganz gelegen, its cold showers only but I'm happy with it
man kann sich hier frei aussuchen wo man zelten will
People can choose entirely where they want to camp
another bigger toilet house but full of mossies - ein weiteres Toilettenhaus, allerdings voller Muecken!
Der See Lake Mahinapua
Sieht schoen aus, aber zum schwimmen eher ungeeignet, braun und voller langer dunkler Algen. Ich hatte mein Stand Up Paddle Board dabei und bin damit auf dem See unterwegs gewesen. Das Wasser war nur etw 80cm tief.
It looks nice, but unsuitable for swimming at all with the brown water and full of long brown algae. I had my Stand Up Paddle Board with me and used that instead. The depth of the lake was only 80cm.

Wekas - they were so nosy and inquisitive what we all had with us! They have been around when we cooked dinner and shared some with them, they have been running over our feet and stuff. At night they went through our open non-lid items as we found out the very next day. Funny actually!

Weka Vogel - diese waren so sehr neugierig und interessiert an unseren Sachen und stoeberten in dem was wir nachts nicht abgedeckt oder versteckt hatten. Sie liefen ueber unsere Fuesse waehrend wir dort sassen und hatten sogar etwas vom gekochten Abendessen abbekommen.
👉 Fehler, der blaue Eimer!Weka Vogel - diese waren so sehr neugierig und interessiert an unseren Sachen und stoeberten in dem was wir nachts nicht abgedeckt oder versteckt hatten. Sie liefen ueber unsere Fuesse waehrend wir dort sassen und hatten sogar etwas vom gekochten Abendessen abbekommen.
Es gab sogar ein Weka-Revierstreit zwischen 2 Haehnen

Am naechsten Tag war ich beim See und hab dort mal einmal rauf und runter gepaddelt
Der Bootsteg - ich sah einige auf Kayaks und kleinen Fischerbooten
