Am 12. August ist das kleine Küken geschlüpft. Es ist das erste von den beiden Bourke Papageien Rosie und Paulchen

On the 15th August the little parrot chick of the Bourke Parrots hatched. It is their first of Rosie and Paulchen. Here you can see them both, Rosie up the top in pink and Paulchen further down in their indoor aviary.
And this is "little birdy" temporary as I am not sure that early whether its going to be female or male.
You can see the splayed legs, its a bird misfunction of the legs if the nest bedding is insufficiently padded and in my case the nest pipe has not enough support for the young chick to get their leg support they need in the early days.

Und hier is das kleine Vögelchen. So jung weiss man noch nicht genau ob es maennchen oder weibchen wird. Hier kann man gut erkennen das die kleinen Beinchen eine Fehlstellung haben. Dies kommt vor wenn das Nest nicht genug Füllstoff und Nestmaterial hat, denn in meinem Fall hatten die Papageien die Eierchen im inneren der Rohre welche zu glatt waren und das Küken nicht genug rutschfesten Bode hatte um die Beinchen unterm Körper zu halten.

Dies kommt vor wenn das Nest nicht genug Füllstoff und Nestmaterial hat, denn in meinem Fall hatten die Papageien die Eierchen im inneren der Rohre welche zu glatt waren und das Küken nicht genug rutschfesten Bode hatte um die Beinchen unterm Körper zu halten.
Hier auf dem Frotteehandtuch sitzt das Küken plötzlich normal. Und damit die Beinchen auch so bleiben und später under dem Körper stehen müssen sie mit einem weichen elastischen Band für eine Weile zusammen gehaltern werden. Es korrigiert sich i.d.R. dann von selbst sofern es frühzeitig erkannt ist. Bin ich froh das ich es in der ersten Woche erkannt habe.

This needs to be for a little while to ensure the bird is growing with correct legs to survive later. Usually this will correct itself if recognised and fixed early enough, like in this case. Lucky I checked it in the first week.

Die Beinchen müssen für eine kurze Weile zusammen gehalten werden da das Vögelchen sonst die Fehlstellung beibehalten wird, daher etwas Korrekturzeit nach einer Woche schon recht stabil geworden und steht alleine!
The little legs tied together for another week to correct the splayed or spraddle legs. I give it another week but I see already good results with more stable standing within only a few days already.

a lot of feathers came through within only a few days, every day the little birdy looked a bit changed and grows so quick!
eine Menge neue Federn und jeden Tag sieht das kleine Küken weiter entwickelt aus, es geht so schnell mit dem Wachstum!
Heute genau 5 Wochen alt und wir haben mit dem zähmen angefangen und ihn langsam and die Hand gewöhnt. Er kommt nun automatisch auf meine Hand, meine Finger und sitzt auf meiner Schulter, versteckt sich gern in meine Kaputze. Im Moment mag er es nicht so gerne weit weg vom "zuhause" oder seinen Eltern zu sein. Also eine Menge handgewöhnen finden im inneren der Voliere statt wo er sich wohlfühlt.

Its 5 weeks today and I started to tame him, make him used to the hand and fingers. He can come to my hand, sit on it and steps on my finger when I asked him to. He also likes to sit on my shoulder and prefers to hide in my hood. At the moment, as he is still so young, he doesnt like to be too far away from "home" and his parents so a lot of the hand taming takes place in the inside of the aviary where he feels comfortable.
