A clear and easy drive in the morning, without traffic or congestion. These are the Bryndrwyns with the sea on the horizon - nice views with sunshine - recorded with my dashcam.
In Kerikeri is a parrot park. What originally a hobby of parrot keeping was turned into a business. Its always so nice here to enjoy the many different parrot species and to have fun with them.
And of course we bought at the entrance a bowl with nuts and bird feed :)

Australian Scaly Lorikeets, and the darker one was in particular keen on the treats. His name is Pickle. They were very focused on the treat bowl, despite this is not at all thei diet. However, this is an Australian parrot species, they do not fit to the parrot species I have as they have a completely different diet with nectar and pollen, not seed eaters as mine are. Also, their call is very noisy and ear damaging high pitch tunes.

Turquoisine parrots and cockatiels, Bourkes and Red Rumped (yellow on the right with red on its back). Unfortunately, I decided against these species as they become extremely territorial and aggressive towards other parrots and need to be kept by themselves in pairs only. I then got a pair of Turquoisine parrots (photo left) instead as they are a good match with the parrots I already have. They're friendly and inquisitive (on the photo left side).

Then have a quick bite to eat for lunch and use the Hundertwasser Toilets. I could not use the ladies so I went to the male toilet instead - have seen this part inside now as well, eeek :)
Here are photos below from the year 2009 after arrival in NZ. To that time there was a tree on the roof of toilet block and the sign looked much better and newer (same counts for me I guess)
On my way back, on Sunday afternoon, I stopped at a breeder of over 15 different species. I picked up a Barraband hen. This one was a spare female to the 2 pairs of Barrabands and ideal for my young Barraband cock who is looking for a new girlfriend. I was lucky to get her for a good price and parrots are most happy with company and need a partner.
Dann das langsame Eingewöhnen am Sonntag späten Nachmittag/Abend.
Then, we slowly got used to each other, bonding time on Sunday evening.

Then the moment came which I have not been looking forward to.. Catch the parrot. I dislike nothing more than catching birds with panic and hectic, especially after they started trusting us and Miko became an indoor bird for a while and got used to humans without fear. I didn't want to jeopardise this. I wanted him to get into the cage by himself, as calm and easy as possible. I had put a thin wire on the cage door, put his favourite food inside and sat back, waited.. He knew something was different and checked out the wire, but about half an hour later he landed on the door frame, observed me and then the desire for treats was bigger and he went inside. I then pulled very gentle and careful on the wire and closed the door behind him to not startle or scare him. He sat there quite relaxed and enjoyed the food. I was so relieved that it all went so calm, easy and uncomplicated. I actually realised that I didn't have a bird catching net anyways...

Miko and the new parrot lady; her name is Awa, derives from Ruawai where she's from.
On Monday, the day after I got the new parrot, I worked from home to let them move in to the aviary. This gives me time to observe the atmosphere and to make sure all is safe and ok. It wasn't easy at the beginning because the existing male didn't accept the new female in the group. They quarrelled and they picked her away, she was excluded and wasn't allowed to be part of the other 3. It took 2 days until all sorted the ranking and pecking order. They are now ok with 2 pairs of 2 and arranged who is sitting where in many branches in the outside aviary.
