Das Fahrrad wurde schon mal rausgeholt und die neue Schlafmatratze ins Auto gelegt. Ich war den Abend vorher in Richtung Hampton Downs Motorsport-Rennplatz gefahren und dort am nahegelegenen Stellplatz unter freiem Himmel bei der Zeltdomäne im Auto übernachtet. Dort gibt es einfache Sanitäranlagen, Steckdosen für Wohnmobile etc. Ich nehme meinen Campingkocher mit und kann mir somit morgens mein Frühstück machen. Diese Überlegung würde mir den frühen Morgen ersparen, denn auf einem Sonntagmorgen stehe ich nicht gerne in irrsinniger Frühe auf! Meine Kumpels von der Schwimmgruppe sind bereits am späten Nachmittag losgefahren.

The bike was already taken out, and the mega-comfy mattress was placed in the back of the car. I decided to drive southbound to the Hampton Downs Racecourse and stay overnight in a nearby location. There is a freedom camping domain in Te Kauwhata which has some facilities and I'll take my camping cooker with me for easy breakfast in the morning. Other swim friends will stay there too and we'll meet up there the night before. My swim mates already drove there in the late afternoon time.

So war das einige Tage vorher als Matratzentest...Passt wunderbar!

Am Abreisetag Samstag Nachmittag - On Departure Day Saturday afternoon

Mental Health Awareness Day and I'll put this to the test today.

Heute ist der Internationale Welt-Mentale Gesundheits-Tag und das testen wir doch mal gleich aus....

Ich wollte das Auto aufschließen und meine Sachen einladen, aber der Fernbedienungsschlüssel öffnete den Wagen nicht. Ich wunderte mich und öffnete ihn dann eben manuell; ich dachte, vielleicht ist die kleine Knopfbatterie leer und tauschte diese aus, aber alle anderen Türen blieben trotzdem dicht. Also nix mit Sachen packen, denn der Wagen startete nicht mal... also der Griff zum Telefon und den ADAC - hier AA anrufen.. Verdacht auf leere Autobatterie. In knapp über 1 Stunde kam der Mechaniker und hatte meine leere Batterie ausgetauscht, und alles lief wieder prima! War doch ganz praktisch diese Wartezeit, denn während ich wartete war der gesamte Hausputz erledigt und die Wäsche gewaschen, aufgehängt und weggelegt. Dann ging es aber endlich (etwas verspätet) los.

I was about to load the car and tried to open it with the remote key... I thought it would be a dead button cell in the key, changed it out, still nothing. It made me wonder about it, as the car didn't open other doors nor start either; all signs of a dead car battery. Ok, get the phone and call the AA, suspected empty old car battery was the case. It didn't take long, with just over an hour waiting for the AA - which I found quite an efficient time to get some chores done in the meantime while I waited for the technician to turn up. Changing the battery took a few minutes and we were on the road! Superb!

Nur 45 Minuten Fahrt ging schnell. It was a quick 45 min drive.

Es war dann natürlich schon dunkel als ich angekommen bin, daher machte es keinen Sinn Fotos zu machen. Hab noch mit meinen Schwimmkumpels gequatscht, die wollten aber Rugby gucken und ich bin auch recht bald ins Bett und war ziemlich müde.

It was already dark when I arrived, so taking photos didn't make any sense. I met up with my mates for a quick chat, but they wanted to watch the rugby game and I decided to go to bed early. I was pretty tired.

Ich hatte ganz gut geschlafen, trotz einer nahegelegenen Veranstaltung oder Feier mit Live Band die bis 23:00 Uhr spielte, und es gab ein paar Regentropfen mitten in der Nacht. Am Morgen hatte ich mir Frühstück und Kaffee auf meinem Camping-Gaskocher gemacht und meine 7 Sachen zusammengesucht. Das Fahrrad verweilte über Nacht auf dem Kayakträger :)

I slept ok despite the nearby celebration with a live band and some raindrops overnight. The next morning was dry and I made my coffee and breakfast on my camping gas stove and got my stuff ready that I would need soon. The bike, however, slept on the roof of the car and tried the kayak racks out :)

Es wurde Zeit so langsam zum Motorsport Park/Rennplatz zu fahren, denn ich wollte einen guten Parkplatz bekommen.

It was time to get to the Motorsport Park/Race course so I could still get a good car park spot before it filled up too much.

Nur ein paar weitere Minuten Autofahrt am Morgen zum Rennplatz ersparten mir den mega frühen Wecker.

Only a further 10 min to the race course the next morning saved me from setting a very early alarm clock.

So sieht das normalerweise aus... aber heute war die Rennstrecke offen für Fahrräder aller Art.

Noch ist nicht viel los, aber das ändert sich schnell. 

It's still pretty quiet but that'll change very soon.

Jeder Teilnehmer hatte einen Platz in den sog. Garagen um dort das Zubehör abzustellen. Ich habe immer gerne ein Handtuch dabei damit ich mir etwas mehr Platz "reservieren" kann, denn oftmals rücken einen die anderen echt sehr auf die Pelle und es wird teilweise zu eng um das Rad rauszubekommen ohne irgendwo hängen zu bleiben.

Each participant has an allocated space in the garages for their gear. I always like to take a towel with me to allow a little more space on my side. It often gets really tight and crammed with everyone else and it's quite crowded and awkward to get my gear out without getting stuck on other people's stuff.

Alles was ich so brauche steht bereit: Wasser, Essenssachen, Sonnencreme, Feuchttücher, Ersatzhemd und Regenjacke, Turnschuhe, Stuhl zum Ausruhen

All I need is ready and laid out: Water, Snacks, Sunscreen, Wet wipes, Spare shirt and Rain jacket, Sneakers, Chair to rest.

Mein Kollege (in Gelb), leitender Manager für den operativen Bereich, und ich mit meinen Schwimmkumpels waren dort gemeinsam am Start; wir 2 nehmen im Namen der Firma teil.

Ein Argentinier, der sein eigen gebautes Holzrad mit Megareifen am Start hatte.

This Argentinian guy took his own designed wooden bike around the course.

Dann war es 8:50 und es ging an den Start.

It was 8:50, and we were getting to the start line.

Ich hatte mir 40 km als Ziel gesetzt, bin aber doch noch weiter gekommen als gedacht!

I set 40 km as a personal goal, but glad to see that I made it further than I thought!

Am Ende habe ich sogar all meine Tombola-Tickets verkauft; denn Mitte Dezember wird von meinem Eisschwimm-Team eine große nationale Tombola stattfinden und viele verschiedene Preise werden neuseelandweit verlost. Als Hauptgewinn stehen 2 Moji-Bad Pakete ganz oben auf der Liste. Dies ist ein Eisbad von Moji (unserem Team Sponsor); das Bad ist wie meins zu Hause. Die gewünschte Temperatur kann von 3 Grad bis max. 42 Grad eingestellt werden. Der Wert ist $4750 pro Bad! Wir verlosen 2 davon als Hauptpreise und eine Anzahl von verschiedenen Gutscheinen, Wellness-Anwendungen, Massagen usw.

In the end, I even sold all my remaining raffle tickets to the hot and sweaty people. In mid-December, our Ice Swimming Team is running a national raffle where a variety of prizes can be won. Top of the list is a Moji tub package sponsored by Moji. This tub package contains the tub and a chiller motor, but the chosen temperature ranges from as low as 3 degrees up to 42 degrees Celsius. It's valued at $4750 and 2 of them can be won. We also have many other prizes with vouchers, wellness treatments, massages etc.

Jeder Teilnehmer erhielt eine kostenlose Pita Pit Teigtasche mit Gemüse-/Hühnchenfüllung. 

Bei der Siegerehrung wurden auch einzelne zufällige Tombolapreise ausgegeben. Als ich mich gerade auf den Weg zur kostenlosen Massage machte, wurde die Tombola angekündigt und mein Name gleich als Erstes aufgerufen!! Hurraaahh ich hatte was gewonnen: $100 Einkaufsgutschein vom Baumarkt! Prima, das kann ich doch immer gut gebrauchen :)

During the prize giving, a random spot prize raffle was announced. I was just on the way to the free massage when I heard my name called out just as the raffle got started! I walked up in awe and won a $100 voucher for the hardware store! That's amazing and such a good prize; always handy to have :)
