Lass uns das Wochenende beginnen mit Freitag morgen: Ich war um 6:00 Uhr früh bereits im Freibad

Let's begin the weekend on Friday morning at 6:00 am, I went for a swim in the outdoor pool

Gegen 7:00 Uhr morgens kam die Sonne auf und fuhr zur Arbeit

By 7am the sunrise told me it's time to get to work

Am Samstagmorgen hatte meine Schwimmgruppe bei unserem gewöhnlichen Schwimmstrand Kohimarama eine lange Schwimmstrecke von mind. 5 km geplant. Dies diente der guten Sache einer Spendenorganisation. Ich hatte mich entschieden meine Schwimmfreunde mit dem Kayak zu begleiten und Fotos zu machen. Es war ein toller sonniger Tag und mal ganz schön so auf dem Wasser diesmal.

On Saturday morning, my swim group decided to go for a longer swim, aiming for a charity swim of at least 5 km. I decided to give this long swim a miss and took my kayak out. I wanted to paddle alongside them take photos and enjoy the beautiful day on water.

ABER.... ganz so einfach wie gedacht war das Ganze wohl nicht.

1. Ich wollte um 9:00 Uhr los paddeln und die anderen im Wasser treffen; war also relativ rechtzeitig da mit guter Stimmung, musste aber leider schnell mit Erstaunen feststellen, dass es mega-voll an der Bootsrampe war. Etwa 20 Kleinboote/Regattaschiffe wurden rein- und rausgefahren mittels kleinen Traktor. Dies dauerte eine Ewigkeit und ich sah meine Schwimmer davonschwimmen... 
   
   
2. Als ich endlich kurz reinfahren und mein Kayak an der Bootsrampe abladen konnte, hatte ich einen super Parkplatz direkt am Strand ergattert. Bonuspunkt! Freude kam auf. Los geht's! Dachte ich...
   
   
3. Leider hielt diese Freude nur kurz an, denn als ich alles fertig hatte und lospaddeln wollte, stellte ich fest, dass ich kein Paddel dabei hatte. Ich Idiot!!! Ich hatte mein Paddel zuhause liegen lassen. Scheiße.
   
   
4. Bin dann eben schnell zum nahegelegenen Kayakladen gefahren. Dort vermieten und verkaufen sie Kayakzubehör und ich hatte Glück das die nette Dame mir ein Paddel umsonst zur Verfügung stellte. Puh, nochmal Schwein gehabt, ich Trödeltussi... muss mir mal angewöhnen ein Paddel im Auto zu lassen.... War nicht das erste Mal das mir das passiert ist.... ich Trulla.

1. The plan was to start paddling at 9am, together with the swim group, and meet them in the water. I was at the beach in time, in a good mood and happy until I noticed the busy activities at the Kohi beach. About 20 or so boats and regatta yachts were taken in and out of the boat ramp. It took forever and meanwhile I saw my swim group passing by...
   
   
2. And finally I had a chance to zip in quickly to unload my kayak and stuff. As a total bonus point, I was able to park directly at the boat ramp. I was mega happy about it. Off we go now! I thought....
   
   
3. Unfortunately, this cheer didn't last long. I was ready to set off to sea when I was looking for my paddle... I am an Idiot!!! I left my paddle at home and stood there dumbfolded without it. Shit.
   
   
4. But, there's a kayak hire and shop nearby. I drove there and they were so nice to lend a paddle to me for free. I was lucky and drove back to the beach. Good to see that my kayak and stuff was still there. What a morning! Finally I made it to the water about one hour later and was able to catch up on my swimmers. I really need to improve on this by perhaps leave a paddle in the car or even kayak as a backup. This stuff sucks and melts my brain cells. Stupid me.

Wie gut, dass der Kayakladen mir ein Paddel geliehen hatte... sonst wäre der Tag mit den Kayakplänen wohl vorbei gewesen.

How glad I was that the kayak place lent me a paddle for the day, otherwise I think the day would have been over with paddling until it even started.

So schön endlich auf dem Wasser zu sein - so nice to be on the water (finally)

Sonntag war mein 2. Rennen bei den Triathlon Serien. Ich hatte mich für den Aquabike-Wettbewerb eingetragen - es besteht aus 500m Schwimmen und 20 km Radstrecke. 

Samstag, den Vorabend hatte ich alles zusammengelegt, nix vergessen und alles vorbereiten was ich so brauche.

On Sunday was the race 2 of the Triathlon series. I registered for the Aquabike event with 500m swim followed by a 20km bike race.

Saturday evening, the night before was a packing and sorting of all gear that I would need. This time I make sure I don't leave important stuff behind.

Sonntag morgen 7:00 Uhr frueh beim Strand Mission Bay angekommen. Dort fand das Triathlon statt und ich hatte einen Parkplatz in der 1. Reihe bekommen, direkt beim Strand und der Veranstaltung.

On Sunday morning at 7am I arrived at Mission Bay beach where the event takes place. I had a primo parking spot directly at the venue by the beach.

Ich hatte mich erstmal umgesehen und mir den Rennkurs angeschaut, wo es genau lang geht. Ich hatte ja noch ganze 1,5 Stunden Zeit. Ich hasse es, mich unnötig beeilen zu müssen.

After arrival, I had a good look around and checked out the race courses. I had 1.5 hours to spare and hate rushing when not needed.

Dann erstmal meine Sachen in die Übergangs-Zone bringen und alles zurechtlegen.

Firstly, I brought my geat to the transition zone and get my stuff ready for the race.

War ja nach 7 Uhr schon ordentlich Betrieb hier!
Around 7am there was already busy times here!

Also, Rennrad aufhängen, Sachen bereitlegen, damit es in dem Übergang vom Schwimmen zum Rad schnell geht und man keine Zeit verliert.

So, hung up the race bike and laid out my gear for a smooth and time-efficient transition between the swim race and the bike ride without having to lose time.

Danach ging es direkt auf's Rennrad und diese Dame war die ganze Zeit neben / hinter mir...

After the swim I went directly on to the race bike and this lady was the entire time near to me...

Nach 1 Stunde, 1 Minute kam ich durch den Zieleinlauf

After 1 hour and 1 minute I arrived in the finish arch

Klasse! Ich habe mich um knapp 15 Minuten im Vergleich zum 1. Rennen verbessert

Happy Days! I have improved my time by about 15 minutes in comparison to the first race

Nu bin ich ferdich.... I'm knackered now

Den Folgeabend gab's dann was lustiges... Mit Dani zusammen habe ich 2 Zelte im Wohnzimmer aufgestellt. Ich wollte beide im Vergleich zu einander sehen, ausprobieren und damit eine Entscheidung treffen können die die richtige ist für meinen nächsten Wander- und Zelturlaub.

The following evening, I had Dani at my place to set up 2 tents inside the lounge which were quite similar. I wanted to see them next to each other and be able to compare them side by side to ensure I make the right decision for my next hiking and camping trip.

I'll leave it to you to reveal with me which one you think I've decided to. Right answer gets a surprise.
