2025 Winter Swim Series - Winter Schwimmserien May/June
Für die nächsten 8 Wochen schwimmen wir den Winter durch mit den Winter Swim Serien. Jeden Sonntag morgen wird sich dann bei den örtlich gelegenen Ost-Badestränden getroffen, um dort einen angelegten Triangel-Schwimmkurs von 500-700m zu umrunden. Man hat 1 Stunde Zeit soviele Runden wie möglich zu vollenden. Je weiter desto besser (aber jeder schwimmt halt das wozu man sich in der Lage und Stimmung fühlt). Dabei wird Auf-See und An-Land für Unterstützung und Sicherheit der Schwimmer gesorgt. Aber im Vordergrund steht der (Kuchen) ich meine soziale Faktor und das wir Spass dabei haben, den Winter über gemeinsam das Training aufrecht zu erhalten.

For the next 8 weeks we are a small group of swimmers who will continue to swim through the winter. Every Sunday morning we meet at the Eastern Beaches to circumnavigate a swim course of 500-700m in a triangle. All swimmers have 1 hour time to swim as many laps as they feel comfortable or capable of. The further the better (but this is quite individual due to own competence and experience). The safety and support on the water and on land are considered. It's mainly for (having cake afterwards) I mean socialising and a lot of fun keeping the winter training up.

windige Schwimmkonditionen, das Wetter war ordentlich stürmisch mit Wellengang
windy and gusty swim conditions in quite choppy water this time and a swell on top
Das Ganze sah dann so aus! Es war etwas stürmisch und windig im Meer gewesen.

Taumanu Reserve/Bucht Start
Die üblichen/the usuals: Anya, Lucia, Russell, Robyn, Brian, Tat, Gary, Tony
Glassklares Wasser und ruhig - von einer Seite zur anderen in einer geschützten Fjordähnlichen Bucht. Das "Rettungs-"Boot hatte uns eine kleine Überfahrt gegeben.
Clear water and calm conditions - we swam from one site to the other and boat ride back on land
1.7km eine Strecke, oder we doppelte Distanz schwimmen will konnte das auch tun. Das Boot hatte uns für die Hin-Strecke auf die andere Seite gebracht. Hat Spaß gemacht.
It's 1.7km one way or swimmers could opt for the double distance. Us one-way swimmers got a free boat ride to the opposite bay for a group start. Fun.

Kohimarama Strand / beach start
Es wird langsam kühler und der Winter hat sich deutlich angekündigt. Mit frischen 6C Lufttemperatur bin ich von zuhause losgefahren und war bei 8C am Strand angekommen. Das Wasser ist dennoch akzeptabel mit 13-14C und noch angenehm. Aber man sieht auf dem Gruppenfoto das einige vorherige Schwimmer von nur-Badeanzug jetzt auf Neopren umgestiegen sind.
Its slowly getting colder and the winter has knocked on the door! I left home with a fresh 6C air temperature and arrived at the beach at a temperature of 8C... The water is still pretty good with around 13-14C. You can see that previous non-wetsuit swimmers have stocked up on neoprene now.

Matariki - ein Maori Feiertag, der dann im Juni stattfindet wenn das Gestirn des Pleaides zu sehen ist. Während dieser 3 Tage um den 20. Juni wird es zum Anlass genommen, in Neuseeland das Neujahr der Einheimischen Maorivölker zu feiern.
Matakiki - A Maori Public Holiday which is celebrated around the 20th of June, when the star constellation of the Pleaides shows. During these 3 days, in New Zealand, the Matariki Festival is celebrated as the new beginning of the Maori New Year.

Rangitoto Vulkaninsel im Hintergrund, und die kleine Verpflegung steht im Vordergrund. Ich hatte in paar kleine gefüllte Gebäcktaschen mitgebracht (Vanillefüllung mit Datteln und Honig)

Kevin - Eisschwimmer von meinem Neuseeland Nationalteam war auch grade das Wochenende hier und wir sind um die Wette geschwommen. Er fährt mit seinem Wohnmobil weiter in Richtung Süden. Dort ist das nächste Eisschwimmen wo wir uns mit einigen Schwimmern vom Team wiedersehen.
Kevin - Ice swimmer from the NZ National Team was just here this weekend and we swam a race together, head to head. He is now on the road again with his campervan to the South Island where we will meet others from the ice swimming team again for the next ice race. I am looking forward to it.
