Schwimmtrip zu den Aldermen Inseln - Kohi Kippers Swim Adventure

TAIRUA - Aldermen Islands (Aldermen Inselgruppe)

Am Samstag, den 3. Mai war ich morgens noch ordendlich am rumpacken, zusammensuchen, frühstücken, Pferd versorgen und dann endlich gegen frühen Nachmittag losgefahren. Es ging in Richtung Osten nach Tairua, nur gute 1.5 Std Autofahrt entfernt; dort hatte ich mir eine kleine private Ferienhütte für 1 Nacht gemietet. Dieses kleine Gästehäuschen war ein Gartenhaus aus Holz, mit einfacher Verglasung und ohne Heizung, die Bettdecken waren sehr dünne billige aus synthetic und mehr was für Sommer (was nicht so das Problem für mich darstellte, aber eine normale Person hätte sich nachts den Arsch abgefroren, es waren 7C nach dem die Abendsonne verschwand).

Saturday, the 3rd May I was quite busy in the morning with packing, organising my stuff, had breakfast with the birdies and saw my horse before I left in the early afternoon. I drove about 1.5 hours to the East to Tairua. I booked a little overnight stay at a private Air BnB for 1 night. It was a small wooden garden cabin with single glazing without heating; the blankets and bedding were quite thin and more suitable for summer. Not a real problem for me, I slept with window open, but a normal person would have struggled by freezing their arse off.. it was 7C after sunset in the evening.

Es war ja noch früh am Tag und sonnig, also dann den Scooter raus und los gehts!
It was still early in the day and sunny, perfect for a scooter ride!

Bin erst den Berg hoch zum Aussichtspunkt, dann zum Bootsanleger bis es dunkel wurde

First I went up the hill to a viewing point and then to the nearby wharf until it got dark

Abends ab 18.30 Uhr trafen wir uns mit ungefähr 20 Leuten zum Abendessen im Vereinshaus des örtlichen Angelvereins, dort gab es leckere Gerichte zur Auswahl. Ich hatte einen gegrillten Lachs mit Salatbuffet.

In the evening from 18.30h onwards, we met with about 20 of us for dinner in the nearby fishing club. There was a nice meal choice available for a reasonable price. I decided for the grilled salmon with salad buffet.

8:00 Uhr

Das Boot geht um 8:30 Uhr los, ich war bereits gegen 8:00 Uhr da denn ich hasse es in letzter Minute anzutanzen und wollte einen guten Parkplatz haben.

The boat leaves at 8.30am but I arrived around 8.00am already. I don't like rushing and last minute, wanted a good carpark too.

Die Insel Slipper, genannt in Maori Sprache Whakahau, bedeuted "windiger Ort" und das war es auch! Es war Wellengang als wir ausgebootet hatten, einigen wurde schlecht und mussten sich übergeben. Mir war nach nur 500m Schwimmstrecke bereits übel, aber das geringe Frühstück blieb drinnen.

In Maori, the Slipper island is called "windy place" and it made their name true to the water conditions. It was quite a swell and most swimmers felt seasick and had to throw up. I also felt queasy on my stomach after only 500m swimming, but my sparse breakfast from hours ago stayed inside.

Eine vulkanische Klippe, die es in vielen Felsformationen zu sehen gibt. Die verschiedenen Lagen und Farben stammen vom inneren eines Vulkans der mit Laufe der Jahre halb zerbrochen und von den Wellen weggespült wurde.

A volcanic cliff which you can see here on the island, in many areas around the island the rock formation shows colour shadings. This one here is half a volcano, a view to the inside as the other half deteriorated and got washed away by the ocean waves with the years.

Dann gegen Nachmittag ging es dann wieder zurück in Richtung Auckland. Es war so schön idyllisch hier. Es ist so sicher, die Leute lassen ihre Haustüren unabgeschlossen und jeder grüßt jeden. Auckland Hektik würde ich nicht vermissen.

I went back to Auckland in the afternoon. It was so nice and relaxing here. It's a safe place, and the people don't even lock their doors. Everyone greets everyone. I wouldn't miss Auckland.
