To ensure one is staying sufficient refreshed and cold we still go out to the sea swims with the open water swim groups, called "Kohi Kippers", the "Fur Seals" and the "OSwim". I decided to still swim with them after the summer swim series finished and I wanted to avoid the pools as long as possible as I am often feeling sick afterwards from the chorine. Also, I wanted to achieve to feel less cold and freezing this winter. Furthermore trying to not catch a cold this season... well... its a bit of a tough time going into these temperatures around 11-12 degrees C but it feels even better afterwards.
You won't believe it but I am trying to stay warm as good as possible and I took a hot water thermos flask with me to pour in my flexy bucket, add cold water to it and stand it it/wash myself off with a cloth, avoiding the ice cold showers in the toilet block at the beach. Afterwards I wrap up warm in my swim parka and even brought a hot water bottle wrapped in a fluffy woolen blanky to be comfortable warm during my car ride back home which is about another half an hours drive. I dont want to be totally frozen cold when I arrive home, that is not healthy.
This seems to work just fine and first other swimmers have started to copy me to also stay comfy warm afterwards. I had a smaller thermos with me to day filled with peppermint tea for the drive home.
