Rotoroa Island - Insel Tagestour

ROTOROA ISLAND

Mit meiner Wochenend-Schwimmgruppe hatten wir eine Woche vorher spontan entschieden das wir unser Streckenschwimmen mit einer Inseltour kombinieren wollen, und so geschah es dann auch.

Wir sind insgesamt eine eher kleinere Schwimmgruppe an unseren Wochenend-Schwimmtreffen, gewoehnlich mit so ungefaehr 10-20 Leuten, aber dieser "unoffizielle" Schwimm-trip zur Insel Rotoroa fand erstaunlich viel Interesse bei unseren Schwimmern. Wir waren 36 Anwesende mit vollen Schwimmtaschen und Rucksaecken die sich eifrig und mit Vorfreude morgens gegen 8.20 Uhr am City Faehranleger versammelten - natuerlich ganz inoffiziell... wir haben alle die Nase langsam voll von den Lockdownzeiten und wollten mal RAUS

A week prior our swim group decided to have our weekend swim combined with an island trip. We are usually a smaller group of 10-20 swimmers, but the little getaway had a huge interest and we were 36 attendees at the end. Everyone was keen and turned up with full bags and a smile at 8.20am at the ferry meeting point. It was all kinda inofficial and everyone was fully over the lockdown time and wanted to get OUT

Dann endlich ging es puenktlich um 8.45 Uhr los. Es waren 75 Minuten Fahrt zur Insel

Im Februar ist das grosse jaehrliche BeanRock Schwimmen mit 3.2 km zum Leuchtturm, drumrum und zurueck zu Mission Bay Strand. Hier ist mal eine andere Perspektive als die Sicht des Schwimmers.

Da Rotoroa eine Insel ist, auf der seltene Spezien leben soll man drauf achten keine Ungeziefer mit anzuschleppen, sauber Schuhe und verschlossene Taschen dabei haben

Rotoroa is a pest free sanctuary for endangered species and therefore its important not to bring along anything that could harm its nature, so clean shoe and closed bags are important.

aber es hat sich gelohnt und endlich angekommen bietet sich ein schoener Ausblick und ein toller Tag stand bevor

1.20 hours of ferry duration was long, but it was worth it for the beautiful views and finally arrived at the destination with a great day ahead

Ich habe sehr viele Privatboote und Yachten gesehen und einige haben direkt beim Inselsteg angelegt anstatt die Faehre zu nehmen.

Unoffizieller Treffpunkt war die Ladies Bay, einer der besten Straende mit schattigen Picknick Tischen, Toilettenblock, Duschen und Umkleide

Inofficial meeting point was the Ladies Bay, one of the best spots that has some shady picnic tables, BBQs, toilets, shower and changing rooms at the beach

Everyone arrived and it looked like a Gypsy Market, then we arranged who wanted to do what.. some swimmers were here to swim all the way around the island which is 6 km. Some swimmers did half of it and walked across the narrow Mens Bay and some have started some individual stuff with some walking treks and did a swim afterwards. So did I decide for it as I wanted to see some of the island as well, not just water.

Sally Ann (on photo below) also had the same idea and she wanted to do it together - ok we walked off together then to explore the red Southern Track first, then the other side and we were able to drag ourselves along the partial steep grassy and gravel roads to all the tracks in the bloddy midday heat. 

A cool swim afterwards seemed just being the right decision. Unfortunately there were some stingrays which I didnt like, but the small groups of fish to see was ok..

Sobald alle angekommen waren sah es aus wie ein Zigeuer Wanderzirkus mit allen Handtuechern, Taschen und Sachen ueberall verstreut. 

Einige Schwimmer waren hier um die Insel zu umrunden mit einem 6 km Schwimmen, andere wollten nur halb herum schwimmen und den Rest laufen bei der schmalen Mens Bay waehrend andere sich entschlossen hatten erstmal etwas die Gegend zu erkundigen, denn es gab viele Wanderwege teils ueber steile Grass- und Schotterwege die dann einen beeindruckenden Ausblick anboten.

Das alles in der heissen Mittagshitze! Ein Abkuehlen am Strand der Ladies Bay schien daher grade richtig und ein paar von uns sind auch eingetroffen und wir schwammen zusammen 1.5 km mit Rochen zusammen... und hatten einige Fische gesehen.

Hier sind wir wieder an der Ladies Bay angekommen, total kaputt und verschwitzt

At about 16.30 we went back to the ferry jetty, last pictures to absorb before heading back
So gegen 16.30 Uhr sind wir langsam wieder in Richtung Faehrenanleger zurueck und hatten die letzten tollen Blicke festgehalten
